Vote By Mail FAQ’s

In New Jersey, you must be a registered voter to apply for a Mail-In-Ballot. Click here for forms. Once you apply, you will not be permitted to vote by machine at your polling place in the same election. You will receive instructions with your ballot. A voter may vote by mail by completing the application for Vote by Mail Ballot, and returning the application to their County Clerk (County Clerk address on the form). To receive your ballot by mail, the application must be received by the County Clerk up to 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m., the day before the election.

The County Clerk cannot accept faxed or emailed copies of an Application for Vote by Mail Ballot, unless you are a Military or Overseas Voter, since an original signature is required.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Do NOT return completed application to the Division of Elections. Completed applications must be returned to the voter’s County Clerk’s office.

What if I Move?

If you move between counties more than 29 days before an election, you must re-register in the new county and vote in the new county. If you move between counties within the 29 days before an election, you may vote in the former county.
If you move within a county more than 29 days before an election, you must file a written change of address with the county office.
