Zoning Department Information

Most development is regulated under two different codes: the Zoning Code and the Building Code. For some projects, a building permit may not be required, but a zoning permit is and in other instances, a separate Zoning Permit is required prior to applying for a Building Permit for the project.

The zoning office handles the following
  • Regulations on yard requirements for construction
    • such as - decks, additions, add-a-level, pools
  • Fence heights and installation
    • How high a fence can be on your property
    • Which side of the fences faces the adjoining property
  • Accessory structures (such as- sheds, decks, patios, pools, garages)
    • Regulations on where they can be installed
  • All signage both commercial and residential

The Zoning Officer addresses all problems on residential properties by referral only.

Property Boundary Lines (Lot Lines) – This is not a zoning issue. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to locate their lot lines. Boundary disputes are personal legal matters and not within the jurisdiction of the municipality. Permits are approved for the general location only. It is the sole responsibility of the homeowner/contractor to locate their property lines.
