General Election Information - 11/03/2020

The NJ November General Election shall be conducted via vote-by-mail ballots, which will be sent to all “Active” registered voters without the need for an application to receive a vote-by-mail ballot. You do not need to submit an application but will received a mail in ballot automatically. Ballots will start going out around October 5th. If you do not receive one you need to call the County Clerk’s office at 201-336-7020 to have a duplicate one mailed to you. These ballots already have prepaid postage on them. Last day to register to vote is October 13, 2020.

Voting machines are strictly for voters who are blind, physically disabled, or illiterate; all other voters will be given a paper provisional ballot. Any voter wanting to use the voting machine must fill out a Disability Certificate for Assistance. Everyone else will have to fill out a paper provisional ballot, not by machine.

Ballot Drop Boxes will be available 24-hours. Ballots must be in the Drop Box by 8PM on election night. Ballots left after 8PM on election night will be considered late and not counted.

Bergen will have at least 10 drop boxes per the governor’s order. The locations of the drop boxes can be found at this link which will be updated with the new locations once they have determined them.

Every vote-by-mail ballot that is postmarked on or before Nov. 3rd, and that is received by Nov. 10th, at 8:00 p.m. shall be considered valid.

Additionally, every ballot without a postmark, and ballots mis-marked and confirmed by the post office that those ballots were received by the post office on or before Nov. 3 that is received by the county Boards of Elections within forty-eight (48) hours of the closing of polls on Nov. 3rd will be counted.
